Special honor for BVB star Haaland

Uwe Seeler has one, Cristiano Ronaldo has one – and soon Erling Haaland too. Only a few players have their own statue. But the BVB star is honored at an early age in his career.

Three meters tall and weighing 700 kilograms: soccer star Erling Haaland will soon receive a replica made entirely of wood in his Norwegian hometown of Bryne. The statue is commissioned by Sivertsen AS and is expected to be completed in June. “It’s a great honor for me to create a sculpture by Erling. It’s cool,” artist Kjetil Barane told VG newspaper.

Haaland is the most famous son of Bryne, a town of 12,000 in the southwest of the country. The wooden version of the Borussia Dortmund goalscorer has already attracted international attention, with the newspaper “The Daily Post” already standing in front of Barane’s door.

Haaland’s head in particular presented Barane with challenges. “I made a few busts first because I can’t make any mistakes with the big block later,” said the artist, who is already looking forward to the finished sculpture: “When Erling stands next to it, it will be the only time he’s small looks.”
