Was Rebel Wilson pressured into coming out by a journalist?

Rebel Wilson introduced her new girlfriend to the public a few days ago. But did the actress want to take this step at all? A journalist might have put pressure on her.

A few weeks ago, Rebel Wilson revealed that she was back in a relationship. However, the actress only recently revealed the identity of her new love – and caused a surprise: she is with a woman, she announced on social networks with a first couple photo.

The 42-year-old does not keep private things completely under lock and key, likes to share insights from her life from time to time. But did she actually want to introduce her new partner to the public? According to the latest findings, this can be doubted.

“Obviously not Rebel Wilson’s decision”

Sharing a report from The Sydney Morning Herold on her Twitter account, which was titled “Rebel starts spreading the news of relationship,” journalist Kate Doak wrote, “It was obviously not Rebel Wilson’s decision to make out.” Both The Sydney Morning Herold and The Age newspaper have admitted warning Wilson two days in advance that they would come out publicly. “What’s worse, openly gay men at the Sydney Morning Herald were involved,” she says.

Responding to the Twitter post, the ‘Pitch Perfect’ actress commented, “Thanks for your comments. It’s been a very difficult situation, but I’m trying to handle it with grace.”

The editor apologizes

The column in Andrew Hornery’s “The Sydney Morning Herold” on the subject can no longer be accessed. Instead, there is a link there that leads to a statement by him. There he apologizes for his behavior towards the actress. “As a gay man, I know very well how much discrimination hurts. The last thing I ever want to do is inflict that pain on someone else.”

He assumed that she would be ready and happy to talk about her happiness in love. So he sent an email to ask. It said: “While I’m aware that Rebel’s partner hasn’t been mentioned yet, I have a few sources who have confirmed her status to me and I have enough details to make it public. However, in the interests of transparency and fairness, I sit down in touch with Rebel prior to release to see if she will participate in what I believe is happy and surprising news […] My deadline is Friday.”

The editor emphasizes: This message was not a “threat”, he just wanted to make it clear that he had enough information to have an open conversation with the film actress. The newspaper does not want to out anyone against their will, he regrets his behavior.
