Boris Becker was transferred to another prison

He has been serving his sentence since the end of April – in one of the toughest prisons in Great Britain. But Boris Becker is no longer an inmate there. The tennis legend has been misplaced.

At the end of April, Boris Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for delaying bankruptcy. After the verdict, the ex-athlete went straight to Wandsworth Prison in London, one of the toughest prisons in Great Britain. There are sex offenders, murderers, drug junkies – and right in the middle the former tennis icon.

But Boris Becker has now left his six and a half square meter cell and swapped it for a cell in another prison, as his lawyer Oliver Moser confirmed when asked by RTL. As the broadcaster reports, the 54-year-old was transferred to HM Prison Huntercombe. The prison is located in Nuffield, Oxfordshire, England, about an hour and a half from London.

Prison for foreign nationals

HM Prison Huntercombe is a male-only prison. Around 400 perpetrators are serving their sentences there – in single and shared rooms. The inmates are mainly men with foreign nationality who still have between three and 30 months to serve.

In the UK, prisons are divided into four categories: A, B, C and D. Category A is reserved for the most dangerous offenders. In category B, like Boris Becker’s first prison, convicts are brought directly after the judge’s guilty verdict. Category C, like the Huntercombe, offers prisoners an opportunity to rehabilitate themselves.

At HM Prison Huntercomb, inmates can learn new skills that will aid in their release. For example, vocational training is offered in the areas of bricklayers, painters and decorators, industrial cleaning and kitchen work. The prison is considered safe.

The new accommodation could come in handy for Boris Becker. During his time in Wandsworth prison, the athlete is said to have repeatedly pressed the alarm button because he asked to leave the cell door open. As reported by “Bild”, he stated that he would panic in small, closed rooms.
