Bradley Cooper opens up about his drug problems

Before his career could really take off, Bradley Cooper was addicted to cocaine. The actor is now open and honest about his drug and alcohol addiction.

Hollywood star Bradley Cooper has spoken publicly about his past drug problems. At the beginning of his career, he felt “lost” and fought against his inner demons, the 47-year-old said in a new episode of the “SmartLess” podcast.

In 2004, Cooper first realized “that I had a problem with drugs and alcohol.” He explained, “I was addicted to cocaine.” In addition, there were physical problems and the fact that he initially did not find a connection in Los Angeles. “Shortly after I got fired from Alias, I tore my Achilles tendon.” After leaving the US series, he had “zero self-esteem”.

The first “Hangover” film, which he shot at the age of 36, brought about a big change. “I had to go through all of these things before fame even played a role in my day-to-day existence,” Cooper said.

In addition, the birth of his daughter with model Irina Shayk in 2017 further improved his attitude towards himself. “You have that wonderful experience or that breakthrough with a script, or you have a wonderful moment on set or in the editing room (…) But you have about 40 moments every day with your kid that mean that level of joy. That’s no gimmicks, that’s just the truth.”

After his success with “The Hangover” in 2009 and two sequels, things continued to improve for Bradley Cooper: in 2012, 2013 and 2014 he was nominated for an Oscar (“Silver Linings”, “American Hustle” and “American Sniper”). In 2019 he was allowed to accept the award: He was awarded Best Actor in “A Star Is Born”.
