Indian and Bangladeshi authorities were sending food packs to the people hit by the huge storm including rice, water pouches, tarpaulin sheets and dried fruit.

Rescue works were hampered due to tree trunks and other debris blocking the main roads of the impoverished regions where most residents live in poor conditions.

The deadly cyclone hit the region close to midnight when most were sleeping or indoors with winds reaching 100 mph (160 kph) that broke trees from the roots, electricity lines and snapped telephone lines. Locals were angered that there were no warnings by any authority that a cyclone was approaching.

Local officials have said that 39 bodies have been found in the worst hit villages names as Hematabad, Raiganj and Kiran Dighi.
