Gun attack in nightclub near Los Angeles

The police took up the pursuit. The perpetrator has now apparently killed himself.

According to authorities, the alleged perpetrator of a deadly gun attack in California is dead. As the police in Los Angeles announced on Sunday, the suspect apparently died by suicide. “The suspect sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said.

After the police chased a wanted van, the officers said they approached the vehicle and heard a shot from inside the vehicle. According to the police, the alleged perpetrator was a man of Asian origin, 72-year-old Huu Can Tran. “I can confirm that there are no other suspects in connection with the gun attack,” Luna said.

The motive for the attack is not yet known. The investigations are not yet complete. “Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives are working around the clock to gather additional information and determine the motive for this extremely tragic event,” he said.

The police stormed the van

The Los Angeles Times previously reported that the driver of a pickup truck was found dead after authorities stormed it on Sunday. Helicopter footage broadcast live from Torrance, about 25 miles from Monterey Park, showed police storming the van.

Photos from the AFP news agency showed the body of a man in the driver’s seat. The man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing police circles. It was initially unclear whether the dead person was the perpetrator. Photos released by police of the prime suspect show an Asian man wearing a cap and glasses.

One in three Americans owns a gun
