Robert Koch Institute reports more than 12,000 new infections

The Robert Koch Institute also reported significantly more new corona infections on Monday than a week ago. The reproduction value remains unchanged.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the health authorities reported 12,097 new corona infections within one day early Monday morning. Experience has shown that the number of cases on Mondays is lower, also because there is less testing on weekends. On Monday a week ago, the number of new infections within 24 hours was 8,685.

According to the RKI, a total of 532,930 people nationwide have been infected with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic (as of November 1, 00:00). The number of deaths related to the virus rose 29 to 10,481 as of Monday. The RKI estimates that around 355,900 people have now recovered.

The number of reproductions, or R value for short, was 1.13 in Germany according to the RKI situation report on Sunday (previous day: 1.13). This means that ten infected people infect about eleven other people. The R-value depicts the infection rate about one and a half weeks beforehand.

In addition, the RKI gives a so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value relates to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was also 1.13 on Sunday (previous day: 1.13). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
