Royal wedding in Jordan: Kate shines in a glamor look

Jordan's Crown Prince Hussein got married in front of more than 140 high-profile guests. In addition to his bride, Princess Kate in particular attracted attention.

It is already considered the royal wedding of the year: On Thursday, Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah tied the knot with Saudi Arabian architect Rajwa Khalid Alseif. The ceremony in Amman was attended by numerous prominent guests, including many European and international royals.

King Abdullah II and Queen Rania welcomed their son’s wedding guests at Zahran Palace shortly after 3 p.m. German time. Among the first to arrive were Prince William and Princess Kate. The two chatted with the royal couple for quite a while, as shown by Jordanian media recordings.

Princess Kate chooses special designer

The 41-year-old had chosen a creation by the Lebanese designer Elie Saab for the ceremony in the Arab country – just like the bride. Kate’s high-necked, floor-length, soft pink gown was adorned with intricate embroidery and lace detailing. Sparkling earrings and a rose gold clutch completed the glamorous look.

The mother of three had styled her dark hair in a side parting, falling over her shoulders in large waves. Her make-up was kept in natural tones. Prince William had opted for a classic dark suit, white shirt and blue tie

The participation of the British heir to the throne and his wife had been kept secret for a long time and was only confirmed by Jordanian state media a few hours before the start of the marriage. William’s cousin, Princess Beatrice, also came with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik arrived from Denmark, while Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel represented Sweden. Ex-Queen Sofia of Spain was accompanied by her husband Juan Carlos I. Shortly after them, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and his wife Máxima, as well as King Philippe of Belgium and his daughter, Crown Princess Elisabeth, arrived. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the USA, was one of the last to pull up in front of the palace in Amman together with daughter Ashley Biden.

Magnificent wedding ceremony

The wedding ceremony took place in a magnificent pavilion. Crown Prince Hussein appeared in an elegant wedding uniform. The bride wore a figure-hugging, floor-length dress, which was particularly impressive with an asymmetrical décolleté and a meter-long, detachable train with floral decorations.

After the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds walked into a courtyard of the palace and accepted the congratulations of the celebrities present. Later, the newlyweds drove in a motorcade from the Zahran Palace to the Al-Husseiniya Palace west of the capital Amman. The Jordanian people cheered the newlyweds.

In Amman, thousands of onlookers followed the column, the streets were lined with photos of the 28-year-old Hussein and his bride, the same age. It was a great day for the Hashemite Kingdom, which is a close ally of the West. Despite high national debt and unemployment, Jordan is considered a haven of stability in the Middle East. Even during the elaborate celebrations in the days before the wedding, the royal family had already been very close to the people and thus contributed to the solidarity of the Jordanians.

Hussein has a lot of responsibility. When his 61-year-old father Abdullah II no longer sits on the throne, Hussein is to become the head of state in Jordan’s parliamentary monarchy with far-reaching political powers and at the same time supreme commander of the Jordanian army. The King, who has been in office since 1999, has systematically prepared his eldest son for the future task. Like his father, Hussein attended the British elite military academy in Sandhurst and then studied history at Georgetown University in Washington.
