Split: Passenger ship sank in port – captain probably drunk

The captain overshot the mark:

A pleasure boat sank off the Croatian holiday island of Split. 50 people were on board.

A pleasure boat sank in the Croatian Adriatic port of Split on Sunday night. The allegedly drunk captain had rammed the pier with the 21-meter-long “Morska vila” when docking.

All 50 passengers on board were unharmed, according to a website of Croatian television HRT. The police arrested the 44-year-old captain. A first test showed an alcohol level of one per thousand. The ship was on its way from the island of Čiovo to Split.
