William and Kate want to move in: Royal dispute over house in Windsor

Prince William wants his family to move into a cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle. But Prince Andrew, who already lives nearby, wants a different neighborhood.

So who gets Adelaide Cottage, just a few minutes’ walk from Queen Elizabeth II’s private apartments at Windsor Castle?

For a few weeks now, there have been rumors in the British media that Prince William, Duchess Kate and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, want to move into the property.

In doing so, they would thwart the plan of Prince William’s disgraced uncle. Because Prince Andrew, who has lived in the Royal Lodge on the grounds of Windsor Castle for a good 20 years, is said to want his younger daughter Princess Eugenie and her family as new neighbors.

Andrew tried to secure the property for his daughter
Eugenie has been living with her husband Jack Brooksbank and their one-year-old son August in Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, since 2020. Now, sources have told the Daily Mail that Eugenie “has been trying for some time to secure Adelaide Cottage if she moves out of Frogmore”.

It continued, “Before Andrew’s recent scandal [involvement in an abuse case that has since been settled out of court, ed.] it was definitely a property that he was also trying to secure for his daughter.” However, it is not clear whether they are still interested in it. But either way, the Cambridges would have the right of first refusal.

William and Kate have apparently been planning to move to the more rural area since last year, where George, Charlotte and Louis are expected to attend school from September. The couple have therefore looked at several properties on the Windsor estate, including Fort Belvedere and Frogmore House. Both properties should not be suitable as a residence for the family. But Adelaide Cottage, extensively refurbished in 2015 and most recently used as official residence for royal staff and family friends, could be just the ticket. It was announced last month that the Cambridges had their eye on the property in the middle of the royal park in Windsor. The move should be completed by the summer.
