Allen Iverson strikes 2 year $4 million deal with Beşiktaş

Turkey Pro Basketball team Beşiktaş make two year deal with Allen Iverson.

Turkish side Beşitaş (Beşitaş Cola Turka) have struck a deal with NBA legend Allen Iverson on a two year contract reportedly costing $4 million.

Iverson who played for Philadelphia 76ers in the 2009-2010 season and for the Memphis Grizzlies in the same season averaged 13.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

The 35-year-old star who has been an 11-time NBA All-Star has been playing at the NBA for the past 14 seasons including a 10 year stay with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Beşiktaş have already made a name for themselves in the soccer arena transferring two world class players, Spanish Guti and Portuguese Ricardo Quaresma.

NBA expert and NationalTurk’s NBA editor Murat Azakoğlu had these things to say regarding the new transfer of Allen Iverson to Beşiktaş.

Murat Azakoğlu said “Beşiktaş’s first big transfer in a long time came as one of NBA’s biggest stars, Allen Iverson.

“However much Iverson was a star 7-8 years ago, he is now almost 36-years-old and left basketball two times.

“The transfer may be helpful in terms of the chairman firing the fans up, but a reported $4 Million is a huge sum of money and I do not believe Iverson will be good enough to take Beşiktaş to a successful level in Europe.

“Beşiktaş could have given this money to two very good players and not only contended for the championship but also go to higher levels in a European championship.

“I predict that Iverson will be a difficult person to get along with and a player with high ego which will cause problems at Beşiktaş.

“Greek pro basketball teams such as Olimpiakos and Panathianikos who generally transfer the older NBA stars did not spend this much money on Iverson.

There are also some that like to compare the Guti, Quaresma soccer transfers with the Iverson transfer.

“In my eyes this is silly. Quaresma is a young soccer player that promises a greater future where as Guti is a Real Madrid legend and is one of the teams greats.

“Iverson in the other hand was a player more famous than the Spanish and Portuguese duo put together, but has since fallen out of favor from Philadelphia, his home team. He is just an old superstar.

“I hope I am wrong in what I say and Iverson has a very good season but I still do not have much hope.”

  1. whoever wrote this article…you are a real crazy and naive person…your thoughts on iverson are baseless, how can you hope you are wrong, wish ivey a “ggod season” but yet, you have NO HOPE whatsover…you might as well wish him to fail!, you !d!ot “reporter”, write something good next time….i hope ivey does great thing in that team, regardless of the money. i know he gonna slip his #3 jersey, and will crossover all you european players, take that for old superstar! he’s a ball player since birth, if u haven’t seen his documentaries. im still a fan of iverson, whether he still plays balls or profeccional chess! go chuck! cross’em up!!!!!

  2. I’m a Philly fan that loved watching Iverson in his prime, but even then, he consistently created chaos for his team and his family….and he’s never seemed to mature or learn from his mistakes. Last year, he was a problem in Memphis from the get-go, and I guarantee his Turkish experiment will not last long.

Turkey, you are about to witness a train wreck!

  3. What’s silly is your useless comment and the fact that 30 NBA teams did not express interest in The Answer this year. There aren’t 30 great point guards right now. It’s stupid to let such an icon play outside USA.

Screw his attitude problems. Kobe had a sexual scandal and was completely forgiven for it. Iverson has not hurt anyone with his antics. He single-handedly brought the Sixers to the NBA Finals. Like Kobe, he should be given a chance to mature and being in his mid-30s, I would say he wouldn’t have any such childish behavior anymore.

This guy has done a lot for basketball. It’s not fair he hasn’t won a championship just because he didn’t have the luxury of a Pippen or Gasol, which Jordan and Kobe had, respectively. What’s worse is losing a chance to play his last few years on a high.
