Manchester United 4 – 0 AC Milan: Manchester United breeze past AC Milan 4-0 to to reach the Champions Legaue Quarter Finals.

Wayne Rooney proved to be the decisive player and that he belonged in the world elite players circle with an impressive performance in which he scored two goals in the Champions League knockout stage against Italian giants AC Milan where Man Utd beat AC Milan 4-0.

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney scored his third head goal against AC Milan (He scored two head goals in the first leg) to make Man Utd go 1-0 up on the 13th minute.

The game largely controlled by the English Champions was sealed of with Rooney’s second goal just two minutes into the second half, in which he converted a brilliant cross from Nani in a slick fashion past the AC Milan goal keeper Christian Abbiati, who had a very poor game along with the AC Milan defence.

But AC Milan did miss a few chances which could have been decisive in a game that saw plenty of action.

Milan could have and should have scored from there first clear chance where Andrea Pirlo’s free kick was headed just wide by Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho on the eighth minute.

However Milan was surely missing three influential players that could have turned the game around. The seven times Champions League winners were desperately missing centre back Alessandro Nesta, midfielder Luca Antonini and striker Alexandre Pato.

after the game Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said “We got the break with the early goal in the second half and after that we played very well. When we play at that tempo we are difficult to play against. With the team I’ve got it dosn’t matter who we play next,”

David Beckham also played a small part in the game where he was cheered on by the Manchester United Fans. It was Beckham’s first appearance at Old Trafford after his transfer to Real Madrid in June 2003.

Manchester United Champions League knockout stage triumph of 4-0 sent a message to the wrest of the teams still taking part in the competition.
