After Trump tensions, Meloni absent from U.S. reception in Rome

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is not expected to attend the U.S. Independence Day reception in Rome following the recent tensions with Donald Trump. The event, hosted by U.S. Ambassador Tilman J. Fertitta at Villa Taverna, has drawn unusual political attention this year.

The U.S. Independence Day reception in Rome is taking place under the shadow of the recent dispute between Giorgia Meloni and Donald Trump. While several senior government figures are expected to attend the event at Villa Taverna, Meloni is not currently scheduled to take part due to her afternoon program in Padua.

Government will be represented

Although Meloni is not expected at the reception, the Italian government will be represented by senior officials. Deputy Prime Ministers Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani are expected to attend, along with Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Cabinet Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano. Tajani is also expected to deliver a speech at the event.

Message of calm from Rome

Despite Trump’s recent remarks and the tensions between allies, Rome is trying to send a message of calm.

Italian officials continue to underline the importance of transatlantic relations, especially economic ties with the United States.
