A peculiar robbery occurred in Philadelphia on Saturday where a 4 year old boy who happened to be the son of one of the thieves was left behind at the crime scene.

The amateur pair of thieves who managed to escape the jewellery shop they robbed with very expensive goods left behind a four year old toddler.

According to police reports, a man and woman entered the Platinum & Ice Jewelry store on South Street at 3 pm on Saturday with a child beside them. One of the pair asked to see the rings while the other used the child as a distraction. When the rings were taken out, the man snatched the tray of rings valued at $100,000 and ran out with the woman.

Capt. Laurence Nodiff gave further detail on the incident and explained, the couple dragged the child by the hand for 2.5 blocks before the clerk caught up with them, and the man slashed the clerk’s face and neck. The couple then fled, abandoning the child.

Authorities are not sure if the child belongs to the thieves. He has been been placed in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
