Three people, including a police officer and the suspected gunman, are dead following a shooting near the Texas A&M campus in College Station. Four others, including three police officers and a female civilian, were wounded.

A policeman and another man were shot dead near a major United States university before police shot the suspect gunman and took him into custody, where he reportedly died.

Assistant Police Chief Scott McCollum has told on Monday three more police officers and a female civilian were wounded in the shooting, which took place in College Station near Texas AM University, which has nearly 50 thousand students.

Scott McCollum said Constable Brian Bachmann had gone to a house a few blocks away from campus to serve an eviction notice when the suspect gunman opened fire, leading the officer to call for backup before he succumbed to his wounds.

The Texas shooting attack happened within two streets of Texas A&M University. Police said the 35-year-old Thomas Tres Caffall was shot and taken to College Station Medical Center, where he was  pronounced dead.

Chris Northcliff, a 43-year-old College Station resident, was shot and killed in the gunfight. It is not yet known if Thomas Caffall was a student at the Texas A&M university, and no motive has been given for the attack.

The mother of Texas University Shooter Thomas Caffall, Linda Weaver, has said that she believes the unidentified shooter is her son, a College Station divorcee with a large collection of weapons.

Thomas Caffall’s stepfather, Richard Weaver, called Caffall a ticking time bomb. He said : ‘ He was crazy as hell. At one point, we were afraid that he was going to come up here and do something to his mother and me ‘. Thomas Caffall had quit his job 9 months ago and said he would never work for anybody ever again.

Gunman Caffall listened his religion as Christian and describes himself as ‘ a cross between Forrest Gump and Jack Kerouac (without the drugs). I’m on the road, permanently. ‘

Three others were injured, including 2 law enforcement officers. One officer was shot in the leg but is in stable condition and expected to survive. A 55-year-old woman was also shot and is undergoing surgery at a hospital.

The police officer told the shots were fired for nearly 30 minutes in four different locations on the street.

One of the residents, 84-year-old woman heard about 6 or 8 gunshots at around 12:30. About 15 minutes later, she heard another round of gunshots. She said : ‘ We are doing a lot of remodeling around here, but then I realized it couldn’t just be a hammer. About that time a neighbor called and said don’t go outside. ‘

More officers arrived on the scene after reports of gunfire and found wounded policeman in the front garden. They tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The new officers approached the suspected gunman and eventually shot him and took him into custody. Thomas Caffall later died of his injuries.

The fatal shooting is the third in recent weeks, following from a horrific theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, last month where 12 people were shot dead as they watched the new Batman movie.

And just last week, 6 people were gunned down by a neo-Nazi white supremacist as they attended a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
