Pope Benedict XVI Received Costa Rica’s President

Pope Benedict XVI received on Monday the President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, who toured several European countries.

The Supreme Pontiff and Chinchilla held a closed door meeting that lasted for about 20 minutes, noted an official source.

During their conversations was highlighted the need to continue guardining the main dignity of human beings since the moment of its conception, according to the Vatican radio.

Costa Rican President also met the Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, and the Foreign Minister of the Holy See, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti.

According to the media of the Central American country, Chinchilla planned to talk with the Pope on sensitive issues such as IVF and the controversy about it.

She would also set out to address key issues for the support of the Church such as paying taxes, participating in public education, labor relations of the priests and the payment of social security contributions to the Social Security Fund.

Her official European tour also included France, Germany and will continue to Italy and Switzerland.
