WhatsApp is testing a long-awaited feature

This has been the case for a long time in networks and news services such as Facebook and Twitter: WhatsApp is now also testing the reaction to messages with emojis, as reported by the media.

The developers of the messenger WhatsApp are testing a long-awaited function in a beta version: Message Reactions. The function that allows users to reply to messages with simple symbols is available to selected testers of the beta version 2.22.8.3 for Android, as the WABetainfo blog reports in an entry.

It goes on to say that in the beta version there are six emojis for the reactions to messages: a heart, surprised, laughing and sad emoji, thumbs up and the grateful hand gesture. The images should be activated and changed with a long press of the thumb on a received message.

The feature should also come to the iOS version

As the US magazine TheVerge reports, it is likely that the function will also be released for iOS users. Since January there has been a button for controlling so-called “Reaction Notifications” in the iOS beta version for WhatsApp. A similar setting is also available in the current beta version for the desktop version for Whatsapp.

It was already known at the end of last year that the function would come. Emoji reactions have long been integrated into other messengers and short message services such as Apple’s iMessage, Facebook’s Messenger and Twitter. We have summarized in an article which functions WhatsApp is planning for this year.

Among other things, WhatsApp will have improved group functions with more administrator rights in the future. The multi-device functionality is also to be expanded.
