More then 2000 DNA samples have been obtained from suspects, by detectives hunting for the most wanted serial rapist-burglar in Britain.
The official DNA tests is at 2,054 with a total cost of £102,700 so far on the on going investigation that started 12 years ago to catch the rapist-burglar dubbed the “night stalker”.
The man believed to be in his mid 30s to mid 40’s is a light skinned black man who targets elderly people and has over 100 known offences in the south London area since 1990 and is believed to be a gerontophile (someone who has fantasies with the elderly).
Key information about the attacker was obtained from forensic samples left by the attacker at more then 10 crime scenes. From the forensics experts have revealed that the attackers parents are of Caribbean origin from the Windward Islands
This resulted in 21,500 suspects and detectives asking for men to give voluntary DNA tests so that they can be eliminated from the enquiry. Eight police officers also travelled to the chain of Caribbean islands which include Trinidad, Tobago, St Lucia and St Vincent.
How the “night stalker” stayed this long without getting caught is also a mystery. The police have tried a huge range of tactics from surveillance to the offer of a £40,000 reward to catch the night stalker.
The most recent linked burglaries took place in June, when one of nine break-ins was linked to the suspect by DNA. Two of the burglaries took place in Shirley, Croydon.
