Both Real Madrid and Chelsea have reportedly agreed on terms and the 32-year-old defender will go through a medical before he signs the papers which will make him a Galactico.

A statement on the website of Chelsea F.C. wrote “Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

“The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

“Chelsea would like to thank Riccy (Ricardo Carvalho) for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career.”

The Portuguese defender who took part in his country’s World Cup 2010 campaign in South Africa transferred to Chelsea from Porto along with José Mourinho in 2004 and is reportedly delighted that he will be reunited with his former manager.

Carvalho who had spoken to a Spanish newspaper earlier in the month had said that a move to the Santiago Bernabéu where José Mourinho is will be a “dream”.

Carvalho said to the Spanish newspaper “If there was a possibility to sign with Real Madrid, I would go there right now swimming or running”.

“It would be a dream to be able to play for Madrid, which I consider to be the best club in the world, and follow the orders of the best coach in the history of football.

“With Mourinho I experienced two marvellous stages at Porto and Chelsea. To have the opportunity to win another Champions League with him at Real Madrid would be tremendous.”

A statement from Real Madrid said: “Real Madrid CF and FC Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

“The player will be linked to Real Madrid CF the next two seasons.”

“Best known for his perfect positioning, his foresight and his ability to advance the ball out of the first third, Ricardo Alberto Silveira Carvalho joins Real Madrid at the age of 32 and with 19 titles to speak of.”

Carvalho had transferred from Porto to Chelsea for £19.8 million and won three Premier Leagues and FA cups for the West London club. The Portuguese had 210 appearances for Chelsea and helped his side to the Champions League Final where they lost to Manchester United.

Carvalho had already won the Champions League and UEFA Cup (UEFA Europa Cup) while playing at Porto with Mourinho.
