The Egyptian presidency owned by Muslim Brotherhood denied that the president-elect Mohamed Morsi first action was giving an interview to Fars news agency, state news agency of the Islamic republic, in which Morsi reportedly reassures to strengthen relations with Iran.

Cairo / NationalTurk – ‘ Mr Morsi did not give any interview to Fars News Agency and everything that this agency has published is without foundation,’ a spokesman for the Egyptian presidency told Egyptian official news agency MENA.

Earlier Fars published what it said was an interview with Mohamed Morsi in which Egypt’s first Islamist and democratically elected civilian president pressed he desired to strengthen relations with the Islamic republic which were severed in 1980 following the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypy, Iran’s arch-enemy.  Among Fars Agency’s claims citing Morsi that the newly elected Egyptian president reconsiders the treaty’s validity.

‘ Part of my agenda for Egypt is the development of relations between Iran and Egypt that will forge a strategic balance in the Middle East region,’ Morsi was quoted as mentioning.

Mohamed Morsi pledged to respect international treaties signed by former Cairo administration led by Hosni Mubarak in a speech to the Egyptian nation after his victory at presidential elections was confirmed.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for stronger ties between Iran and Egypt after Morsi’s election victory in Egypt, the state news agency IRNA news agency reported.

Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi succeeds toppled Egyptian veteran president Hosni Mubarak, who never trusted and shunned developing close ties with the Islamic republic of Iran, which he considered to be a destabilising factor in the troubled Middle East.

Iran’s predominant faith is Shiite Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood who will lead Egypt from now on adheres to the Sunni branch of Islam. Despite sharing the same Islamic point of view Iran has been attempting to reach out to the Islamist organisation in Egypt in recent period in order to establish an alliance based on Islamistic ideals.
