Since the beginning of the Israeli military offensive against Gaza France is experiencing a new wave of attacks against Jews. Prime Minister Manuel Valls warns of a new form of anti-Semitism.

In France protests against the Israeli military operation in Gaza have escalated again. In the Paris suburb of Sarcelles juvenile offenders set fire on Sunday evening to cars and looted shops – including a shop for kosher food. Police arrested 18 suspects.

The French government has condemned the riots sharp. “Anyone who desecrates a synagogue or a bakery Kindle, because it belongs to a Jew who commits an anti-Semitic act,” Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said during a local visit on Monday morning.

The authorities had banned the protests from the previous day on Sunday because of the riots, yet hundreds of protesters gathered in the streets of Sarcelles. The initially peaceful assembly escalated apparently, as partly masked youths put garbage cans on fire and fireworks and smoke bombs detonated.

Sarcelles is called in France because of its many Jewish residents as “Little Jerusalem”. At the same time living in France more Muslims than any other EU country. Cazeneuve came in the suburb both with representatives of the Jewish community as well as with the Chief Rabbi of France, Haim KORSIA together.

Already a week ago, there had been several attacks on synagogues in France. At rallies protesters chanted slogans such as “Death to the Jews”. Prime Minister Manuel Valls warned, given the assaults of a new form of anti-Semitism in France.
