Many were unsurprised by the departure of Garcia or Stevens after both did not do very well especially Andrew Garcia who was seen as the worst of the bunch on yesterdays show by the judges.

The Elvis Presley theme was the final blow for Andrew, the 24-year-old musician got the least votes along with poor, performing 17-year-old high school student Katie.

There was a season high 34 million votes from the American Idol fans which is fair to say, a result of last years American Idol runner up Adam Lambert featuring on the show as the guest judge.

Thankfully to Ryan Seacrest, Andrew did not endure a painful wait and was called out along with Casey James and Aaron Kelly. Seacrest just said “Andrew, it’s the end of the road. I’m sorry. America has voted. It’s the last chance tonight on ‘Idol.’ ”

Garcia was considered to be one of the early favourites of American Idol Season 9, after his acoustic version of former Idol judge, Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’ in the Hollywood round, made him an overnight sensation.

But the singer song writer had failed to match the same performance in the later rounds of the competition. After learning that he was going home Andrew said “I’m glad I’ve been through what I’ve been through.” Andrew sang James Morrison’s “You Give Me Something” before leaving the idol platform for the last time.

Katie Stevens, the 17-year-old , was the second and final contender to leave today after her version of “Baby What Do You Want Me to Do” failed to impress the American Idol faithful of Simon Cowell who called it “Annoying”.

The High school student sang the Beatles “Let It Be,” while her voice cracked at times trying to hold her tears back. Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus fellow competitors were almost as upset as Stevens while they could not hold their tears back.

Ryan Seacrest also mentioned that last weeks saved contestant, Michael Lynch was not in the bottom three after the results were mentioned. Something that I predicted after yesterdays show.

Performers on this weeks show was Mentor Adam Lambert singing his hit song “Whataya Want From Me”. Season 7 finalist Brooke White also performed, singing “If I Can Dream” and she did a duet with Justin Gaston, singing “If I Can Dream”.

The American Idol Top 7 theme will be “inspirational songs” and will be held along with the Idol Gives Back” charity event. However it is not yet been announced if an elimination will take place during the charity event.

Some of the performers on next weeks show will be Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, the Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox and Jeff Beck.
