FIFA announce World Rankings before World Cup 2010 South Africa

The latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking was announced on Wednesday which will be the last before the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

fifa world rankingThere were no major surprises in the top 10 as Brazil was listed as first, the position which they took off Spain last month.

The reigning European champions was listed as second behind Brazil after they lost the position to the five time World Cup Winners after five months in the top spot.

Portugal 3rd, Netherlands 4th, Italy 5th, Germany 6th, Argentina 7th and England 8th, all retained their positions from last months FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.

France went up a position to 9th and managed to stay inside the top 10 best teams in the world by replacing Croatia.

Croatia, who is listed as 10th, is the highest ranked team in the world which will not be participating at the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

There are currently, eight teams in the top 30 of the FIFA World Ranking which will not participate in the 2010 World Cup which are, Croatia 10th, Russia 11th, Egypt 12th, Norway 22nd, Ukraine 23rd, Israel 26th, Romania 28th and Turkey 29th.

Turkey who failed to reach the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, went four positions up to 29th replacing Czech Republic who dropped four places to 33rd.

The hosts of the competition, South Africa, went up seven positions to 83rd and are one of the lowest ranked teams in the 2010 World Cup, but the hosts are hoping the home advantage will lift their play.

South Africa 83rd, New Zealand 78th and Korea DPR (North Korea) 105th are the only teams which are not in the top 50 of the FIFA World Rankings but have qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Korea DPR have qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the second time ever after qualifying in 1966 where they managed to beat Italy 1-0 to reach the Quarter Finals of the competition where they lost 5-3 to Portugal.
