Gaziantep executives sent to courthouse after being arrested

A Turkish court on Thursday ordered the arrest of 15 Gaziantepspor officials, including İbrahim Kızıl, the club’s president, on charges of fraud on financial case.

Gaziantep / NationalTurk – A total of 31 Gaziantepspor executives, including club’s chairman İbrahim Kızıl, were sent to the courthouse in southerneastern province in Turkey after being detained as part of an fraud probe launched by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) earlier this week. Gaziantepspor chairman Kızıl had been taken to the courthouse by policemen.

Earlier this week, the Gaziantep police has launched an probe regarding the financial status of the Turkish football club, taking 46 officials into custody. The police then have releasaed 15 officials pending charges.

Gaziantep prosecutors stated this was a financial investigation of the Turkish Super League club and not about the ongoing match-fixing case, which has rocked the Turkish football agenda, in a press statement yesterday.

‘ The investigation started in October 2011 and included the investigation of documents from Kızıl Holdings and the Gaziantepspor club from the last five years,’ the statement read. ‘ The case is not about sport issues such as match-fixing.’

A total of 93 football officials, players and coaches from at least 10 clubs were listed as suspects in the ongoing match-fixing case.
