The operation conducted by the Istanbul Police Department resulted in 18 Court experts to be questioned under allegations that they received heavy bribes in over 20 cases to give false information to judges.

The controversial system in Turkey had been under heady criticism from law officials and politicians of late. The duty of the Court Experts who are commissioned by court officials and are independent of any side, is to provide information to judges regarding cases.

However, after a tip-off from an unknown source, the Organised Crime Unit of the Istanbul Police Department, took up to 18 people for questioning after months of investigation.

The people who were taken into questioning were the Court Experts who are commissioned by judges, and the supposed bribers who allegedly gave bribes to the Court Experts to have an unfair advantage in their cases.

There have been two companies in particular which cannot be named due to legal reason that have allegedly given bribes to Courts Experts to give false information to judges to keep the companies open after they went into administration and almost completely shut down.

Officials from one of the alleged companies is rumoured to have given over 500,000 TL ($340,000).
