Daredevil and skydiver Felix Baumgartner jumped on Wednesday with a balloon at an altitude of 29 km above the Earth and fell at rate of over 800 km per hour.
The 43-year-old skydiver Felix Baumgartner plunged to Earth from an altitude of about 96,640 feet (29,450 meters) – more than 18 miles. Austrian daredevil landed safely near Roswell, New Mexico.
It’s the second stratospheric leap for fearless Felix Baumgartner. He’s aiming for a record-breaking jump from 125,000 feet (38,100 meters), or 23 miles, in another month. The skydiver Baumgartner hopes to go supersonic, breaking the speed of sound with just his body. Longtime record-holder Joe Kittinger jumped from 102,800 feet in 1960 for the Air Force. Two days ago Kittinger has monitored Felix Baumgartner’s test jump.

The Austrian daredevil ascended in an enclosed capsule lifted by a giant helium balloon. He wore a full-pressure suit and used parachutes.
Fearless skydiver Felix Baumgartner completes stratospheric leaps
Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner told before the jump : ‘ The pressure is huge, and we not only have to endure but excel. We’re excellently prepared, but it’s never going to be a fun day. I’m risking my life, after all. ‘
Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner has jumped more than 2,500 times from planes and skyscrapers and now, he’s training for his biggest leap yet: a 120,000-foot jump to break a 52-year old record.
Felix Baumgartner strapped into a capsule and rose by helium balloon more than 18 miles above Roswell, N.M. and jumped. 96-thousand feet is three times higher than jetliners cruise. Felix Baumgartner spent 4 minutes in freefall, reaching a top speed was 536 mph, and landed safely in the desert.
Pushing the sound barier / Felix Baumgartner prepares to break sound barier
Skydiver star Baumgartner has commented : ‘ It’s hard to believe it, if you put it that way, but I love it,” added the 43-year-old adventurer, who is looking forward to the historic jump that will also collect important data for the advancement of medical science. “Will I break the sound barrier this summer? We think it’s possible, and I’m putting everything into making it happen. ‘

Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger in 1960 rose in an open-air gondola and jumped from 102,000 feet – 19 miles high – still the highest, fastest and longest skydive on record. Felix Baumgartner wants to top that record, with help from his training partner and mentor – now 83-year-old Joe Kittinger.
Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner says : ‘ I love the challenge. That’s the reason I became a skydiver, and as soon as I was a skydiver, I was looking for a challenge. … And based on all these results, we should be ready for the big one. ‘
This is not just a crazy publicity stunt. NASA is following Baumgartner’s efforts carefully, and wirh each jump, Felix Baumgartner is trying to advance the science of survival in high altitude.
