The Former leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the main opposition of the government, has come out of his home for the first time since Monday, after resigning from his 18-year post, with a swarm of reporters surrounding him.

The Turkish Paparazzi, News agents, cameramen and reporters were all literally camping outside the former leader’s home.

The scandal images of the former leader had first emerged on the 7th of May, and had stayed on the website of a news agency for 30 minutes before being removed.

However this was enough time for the video to go viral on popular video sharing websites such as Youtube. CHP supporters and Baykal had blamed the government as the News agency which made the video public is known for their closeness with the government and religious groups.

Baykal had also said that such an incident could not be planned and implemented “without the government knowning”.

Baykal emerged from his home to a swarm of reporters to send his support and also to ask the group of Republican People’s Party supporters who had gone on hunger strike on Tuesday to “stop their demonstration”.

The group of mainly young adults belonging to the Republican People’s Party, Youth Arm along with the Maltepe CHP mayor went on hunger strike on the 11th of May, a day after Baykal’s resignation to support the former leader and get him to return as the leader of the Party.

The group travelled from Istanbul, along with Mayor, Mustafa Zengin, built a tent and took out placards which wrote “the cowards will be brought to justice” outside the home of Baykal in Ankara

Baykal said to the swarm of reporters “Thank you so much for your support, but please show your support in democratic ways by opening placards, this type of demonstrationis really upsetting.”

Baykal continued “Please give an end to the hunger strike. You can put your thoughts across in a way which is respectful of the laws. Your show of support is very important and has a deep meaning for me, but do not support your demonstration with hunger strike,”

“Give an end to the hunger strike right away. We do not support this type of political understanding. There is no need for this. You can carry on your protest, supporting us in this way from the bottom of your hearts is very important for me and our party. But please stop the hunger strike.”

Baykal then went to a funeral again, swarmed with reporters asking him questions which the former leader largely left un-answered.
