Christmas in Turkey

sultan ahmet in snowTurkey is becoming a country that celebrates Christmas just like it’s western counterparts according to a CNN video.

The first Christmas movie made in Turkey “Neseli Hayat” or cheerful life is a film based on a working class man that is very low on luck and is hired as a shopping mall Santa. But does not know anything about Santa.

The film highlights Turkey’s changing attitude towards Christmas. The fascination with the Christian traditions is mainly due to the economy. Shops and shopping malls are stocking up towards the Christmas period due to the fact that customers like the looks of the decorations.

In a country that is overwhelmingly Muslim, the TV channels constantly show western movies, television series and documentaries which have an effect on the people.
