Fidel Castro makes rare public appearance at Havana school

The former Cuban president Fidel Castro has made a rare public appearance. This is the first public appearance of Fidel in the past eight months.

The 89 year old was visiting a school in Havana named after his late sister in law Vilma Espin.

“I am certain that Vilma would be very happy on a day like today,” said Fidel. “She would see why she sacrificed her life. Everything that dies struggling for the Revolution leaves behind positive vibes on its way,” added the bearded leader

Fidel Castro passed on power to his brother Raul Castro in 2008 after suffering serious illness. Raul Castro has said he plans to retire in two years time.
