Las Vegas courthouse shooting – Video

accused gunshotNew information is being released about the man who is accused of shooting and killing Security Officer Stanley Copper.

Johnny Wicks, the accused walked into the Lloyd George Federal Building on Monday morning dressed in all black and before he reached the security checkpoint, he reached for his shotgun hidden inside of his jacket.

“Seven court security officers and United States Marshals heroically returned fire on Wicks after he fired on the officers,” said Kevin Favreau from the FBI.

Retired Metro Sergeant Stan Cooper who has been working as a courthouse security guard for 15 years was fatally wounded by a hail of birdshot that came out of Wicks’ 12 gauge Mossberg.

“Wicks retreated from the building. The officers pursued him, continuing to fire. Wicks shot a total of five rounds from his shotgun at the officers,” said Favreau.

A total of 81 bullets were fired by security guards and police officers, hitting Wicks once in the stomach and then 1 in the head which killed him. A US Marshal was also hit during the gun battle, but is expected to be okay.

Investigators say Wicks was angry at the Federal Government because his social security payments had been reduced. Wicks filed a civil case about those payments, but it was dismissed leading to the shooting, investigators think.
