Nato has no knowledge on Gaddafi dead or alive

Nato not sure about Gaddafi dead or alive

Nato approves that it doesn’t know if Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is dead or alive.

A spokesman for Nato stated the air strikes on Tripoli were not aimed at killing Muammar Gaddafi.
“All Nato targets are military targets, meaning that the targets we hit are command and control units,” Claudio Gabellini, a Nato spokesman said.

“Nato is not targeting persons in Libya”

The whereabouts of Muammer Gaddafi, who has not been seen in public since he reportedly escaped an air strike on April 30 that killed his son, is unknown to NATO forces. Claudio Gabellini stated: “We don’t have any evidence. We don’t know what Moammer Gaddafi is doing right now. And to tell the truth we’re not really interested in what he is doing”

The Libyan government insists that Gaddafi is in mourning for his deceased son and will make an appearance in public soon, his absence created rumours about his death in the attacks.

At least two NATO bombs struck the family residence on April 30 while Gaddafi was inside, although his supporters said that col Gaddafi had survived unwounded.

However, he was not seen at the funeral of his son Saif al-Arab and three grandchildren who were also reportedly killed in the attack.
Libyan officials blamed security fears for keeping Gaddafi away and accused Nato of trying to assassinate Muammer Gaddafi.

Nato officials, who began the campaign on Libya in March, have increased the level of air strikes in Tripoli in recent weeks, aimed at the Libyan military command and communications centres.
