Russia continues to attack big cities

Russian army continues heavy attacks – apparently also with cruise missiles

The Russian side is waging the war in Ukraine with increasing severity. There were numerous attacks during the night, particularly on the major cities of Kharkiv and Kyiv. According to agency reports, Russian cruise missiles were also used. According to reports from Kharkov, houses were also bombed and many civilians were killed.

According to Russian information, the army is said to have taken control of the center of the Cherson region in southern Ukraine. At least that’s what the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, claims. This statement cannot be verified independently. So far, local Ukrainian authorities have only reported that the city is completely surrounded.

Kherson, with a population of about 280,000, would be the first Ukrainian regional capital that Russian troops may have taken control of since the outbreak of war. The city has been fought over for days. An adviser to the Ukrainian Ministry of the Interior speaks of numerous dead civilians who were killed trying to defend their city with so-called Molotov cocktails, among other things.

An airstrike was reported from the Ukrainian city of Zhytomyr during the night. Presumably Russian Kalibr cruise missiles damaged numerous residential buildings, including a hospital, reports the Unian agency. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry, referring to local authorities, speaks of four dead. The target of the attack was a nearby military facility.

Burning houses and rescue workers can be seen in videos shared on social networks. Zhytomyr is about 140 kilometers west of the capital Kyiv. So far, attacks have been registered primarily in the north, east and south of the country.
