Sean Penn thought about going to war for Ukraine

During the shooting of a documentary about the war in Ukraine, Sean Penn, as he says, was also visited by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

At the time of the Russian invasion, Penn was still in the country. As a result, he experienced the war up close, but fled to Poland early on. Now he claims that at times he seriously considered going to war for Ukraine.

Sean Penn felt responsible

In an interview with Hollywood Authentic Magazine, the 61-year-old spoke about his feelings: “The only possible reason why I would have stayed longer in Ukraine last time would be because I had a gun in my hand. Probably without a body armor because as a foreigner you would want to give the body armor to one of the civilian fighters who doesn’t have it, or a fighter with more skill than me, or a younger man or woman who could fight longer or whatever. It’s not possible in my life situation now, but if you’ve been to Ukraine [fighting] must come to mind. And then you think: what kind of century is this?”

Documentary should shed light on Selensky’s career

Penn had started talking to Selensky years ago. The documentary was originally intended to accompany the rise of the Ukrainian president. However, the project took a sudden turn with Russia’s attack on Ukraine. In addition, Penn told the “Hollywood Authentic Magazine” that he is currently not in close contact with Selenksy: “I don’t spend a lot of time writing to the President or his staff while they are under siege and their people are being murdered.”
