Tyrol: Three seriously injured in skiing accidents

Three people were injured in skiing accidents in Tyrol on Sunday. In the Alpbachtal, a 51-year-old was traveling at high speed, was thrown 27 meters through the air and hit the ski slope with force.

A 23-year-old and a 22-year-old were seriously injured in the Zillertal.

At around 11:25 a.m., the 51-year-old German was skiing on a black slope in the “Skijuwel Alpachtal Wildschönau” ski area. When entering another ski slope, the skier apparently lost control of his skis and took off at high speed. He was then thrown around 27 meters through the air before hitting the ski slope with force.

A doctor who happened to be present immediately carried out initial measures and started the rescue chain. After initial care by the rescue workers, the skier with serious back injuries was flown to the Innsbruck clinic by the NAH “Heli4”. He is currently in the intensive care unit there.

Serious shoulder injury after a fall in the Zillertal

At 11:30 a.m., a 23-year-old was on a variant slope in the Hochzillertal ski area. The winter athlete fell while jumping over a hill and sustained a serious shoulder injury. After receiving initial care from the piste rescue team, he was flown to Schwaz Hospital in an emergency helicopter.

At 1:20 p.m. there was a collision in the Zillertal Arena between a 22-year-old Austrian woman and a 21-year-old German woman. The young Austrian was taken by helicopter to Schwaz Hospital with serious injuries. The German also injured herself, but was able to see a doctor on her own.
