Police in Australia seize huge haul of crystal meth and heroin stored in terracotta pots worth over half a billion dollars and broken up a Hong Kong-based drugs ring.
Australian police have reportedly seized half a billion dollars’ worth of crystal methamphetamine and heroin after smashing a Hong Kong-linked international drugs syndicate. Four Hong Kong nationals and 3 Australian suspected were also arrested in raids in Sydney yesterday.
The drug transport was the largest seizure of crystal methamphetamine and the third largest seizure of heroin. All together included over half a tonne of drugs – 306kg of crystal methamphetamine and 252kg of heroin, have been seized.

Deputy police commissioner Andrew Colvin has told : ‘ This was an 11-month investigation where we’ve had tight control over a number of people who we suspected of being involved in illicit narcotic importations. ‘ This has prevented half a billion dollars of drugs reaching Australian streets.
The investigations into the syndicate began in August last year after a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Administration. The drugs were found in a shipment of terracotta pots on 19 July. The suspects will face charges in a Sydney court for importing and possessing drugs.
The drugs were allegedly stashed in 100 terracotta pots shipped to Australia from an undisclosed country and tracked to a warehouse in inner-city Sydney, with hundreds of foil-wrapped, loaf-sized packages uncovered. Those arrested, aged between 29 – 61, appeared in court charged with various drug importation and distribution offences and were remanded in custody.
