Canada to Activate Seven New Military Bases Abroad

Canada is looking for seven tactical enclaves around the world to establish military bases for its troops, as part of a new international military strategy promoted by the conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The plan is to create a system to shorten the military response time in future wars, and the first countries in the list of likely venues are Germany and Kuwait.

The Ministry of Defense explained that a group of Canadian experts and diplomats have left the country to visit a dozen nations on a half-a-million USD budget to start negotiations for the said purpose.

The Harper Administration plans to install units of military planes, warships and technological equipment in what they consider the most volatile regions worldwide and the areas more prone to natural disasters or humanitarian crisis, according to Ottawa.

Defense Minister Peter MacKay announced that Latin America, the Caribbean, the coasts of the African continent and South East Asia are some of the territories in the list of likely venues for military bases of Canada.

Canada is to freeze the Armed Forces expansion and plans to sell military facilities as part of a national program of financial readjustment and capital saving, according to Ottawa Citizen newspaper.

The Canadian Army will have 68,000 men through 2016, and the Defense Ministry is planning to maintain only properties that are really indispensable.

On the current 21 military facilities and 800 related plots, we will maintain a minimum of facilities really necessary to secure military operational maneuverability, said Gen. Walter Natynczyk.
