Hugo Chavez Sacks Power Minister

Hugo ChavezVenezuelan President Hugo Chavez has rescinded his decision to introduce power-cut in the capital a day after implementing rolling blackouts of up to four hours a day throughout the country.

Chavez said there had been mistakes in introducing rolling blackouts in Caracas, and dismissed his Electricity Minister holding him responsible for it.

In an announcement telecast nationwide, Chavez said since the outages began in Caracas at midnight Tuesday, authorities had cut power to the wrong sectors of the city in some cases.

He added that the government had a rethinking on the decision considering that it “has to be capable of recognizing mistakes.”
