Dutch prince struck by a lawine while skiing in Austrian Alps last week may never regain consciousness due to massive brain damage he suffered, Austrian doctors stated.

Amsterdam / NationalTurk – Dutch prince, Johan Friso struck by a lawine while skiing in a remote region in Austrian Alps last week may never regain consciousness due to massive brain damage he suffered, Austrian doctors told.

Johan Friso, 43, is the second son of the Netherlands’ Queen Beatrix.

Dr. Wolfgang Koller, head of trauma at the Innsbruck hospital in Austria where Prince Friso is being treated, stated at a news conference broadcasted live on Netherlands national television that it took rescue squads nearly one hour to reanimate the prince after he was pulled from the snow.

“It is obvious the oxygen starvation has caused massive brain damage to the patient,” he told the reporters. “At the moment, it cannot be predicted if the prince will ever regain consciousness.”
