Killed American Journalist Sotloff: IS-terror brings Obama in trouble / Breaking News

-

It is a cruel murder, again: IS-terrorist militias have apparently beheaded the second American journalist. Now the pressure on President Obama grows. When the Americans intervene in Syria?

Barack Obama is silent as he walks the few steps to the waiting helicopter in the garden of the White House on Tuesday afternoon. Although the video that allegedly beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff by the terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS) is not yet fully verified at this time, but the whole country has been discussed for hours this probably second murder of a U.S. Nationals within two weeks.

And while in London, British Prime Minister David Cameron says the video – if authentic – tools of a “despicable and barbaric act of murder,” the President rises silently in his helicopter. Shortly after that it goes with the Air Force One on to Estonia.

You check the video say, meanwhile his people in Washington. “As fast as possible”, says the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry. And the National Security Council announces: point it out to be genuine, “We are appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent journalist”. America is struggling to find an answer to terror. How would that look?

As the jihadists released the video of the beheading of American journalist James Foley two weeks ago, so far translucent barbarism in Syria and Iraq was suddenly compressed into a single image that burned itself into the memory. America was shocked. Questions were given new urgency: How dangerous is the IS? How high is the risk of a terrorist attack in the United States?

Killed American Journalist Sotloff:”Attack on our country”

The government, so let Obama explain, consider the murder of Foley “as an attack on our country.” Shortly after that, last Thursday, the President announced that he plans for a military operation – so probably air strikes in Syria – leaving work. On demand he admitted: “We do not have any strategy.” This was said with regard to the IS-militias in Syria, but was misinterpreted as a general cluelessness. On Friday he incited off on a fundraiser: “The current situation is far less dangerous than the 20, 25 or 30 years ago.”

This Tuesday finally the video of the alleged beheading of kidnapped in Syria last year, 31-year-old Steven Sotloff; the murderer turns overlooking the US air strikes in Iraq directly to the U.S. president: “You, Obama, have to pay for your actions with the life of another American citizen.”

Where the murder of Foley directed the attention of the American public on the IS-terrorists, since the beheading Sotloffs the urgency of a reaction of Americans now seems to conjure. Obama is under pressure.

In rare unanimity, Democrats and Republicans in Congress calling on the government to act quickly. The United States should lead air strikes against the IS in Syria and arming the rebels there moderate further, said the Democratic Representative Eliot Engel of the Foreign Affairs Committee. And Democrat Senator Bill Nelson of Florida – the home Sotloffs – said: “We must immediately take action against the IS, because only the United States can forge a coalition to stop this barbaric group.” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted: “Mr. President, if you already do not present strategy, then tell us at least once, what your target is facing the IS.”

Killed American Journalist Sotloff:Obama wants alliances in the Middle East

Polls in recent weeks also showed a shift in opinion that the majority of the population now supports the U.S. air strikes in Iraq. Overlooking Syria and the two journalists killed no data available. Given these felt with new urgency seems Obama’s more restrained approach increasingly falling out of time. The liberal U.S. magazine “Vox” criticized even before the announcement of the second video the “stubborn foreign policy optimism” of the President: “Obama controls a race car, as if it were a cruise ship.”

Ultimately, it’s all a matter of time. The fact that Obama is ready to air strikes against the IS-militias in Syria, no doubt can exist basically more. Only ground troops are still excluded. But he strives to alliances on site: with Kurdish fighters, with Jordan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia. The remaining moderate rebels should be strengthened in order not ultimately the Syrian dictator Assad of US-strokes benefits against the IS-terrorist militias.

The coming weeks with Obama’s appearances at the NATO summit and before the UN in New York seemed so seen best opportunities to offer to heave the case IS on the international level, to forge alliances. To just not again into a new confrontation USA to run versus radical Islamists – to which it could have except for reasons of prestige with their Enthauptungsvideos the terrorist militias.

How much time but Obama has now, after the second Enthauptungsvideo? He himself has referred to the IS as cancer. Cancer can unfortunately spread rapidly.
