Maldives Tourism Ministry has already commenced discussions to change the recently branded ‘Maldives-Always Natural’ logo and slogan back to the previously used logo and slogan ‘ ..the sunny side of life ‘ in promoting tourism of the Maldives.

Maldives Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb stated his ministry was discussing with representatives from all parties of the tourism industry to alter the slogan ‘ Maldives always natural ‘ and the according logo back to ‘ ..the sunny side of life ‘, the slogon and logo which had promoted Maldives and Maldives tourism for 11 years, until it was changed last year by the former Maldivian government.

‘Even yesterday we had been in talks with several persons from the industry. Most of them express their positive opinions abaot the change of the Maldives logo and slogan. That is why we are going to discuss this further ‘ Adheeb told.

He further said that the idea to revert back to using the previous Maldives slogan and logo had been put forth as they had been used for a long period of time and had become familiar to a lot of people around the globe, which would make it easier to promote a slogan a logo.

The current slogan ‘Maldives-Always Natural’ including the fingerprint logo comprised of islands, corals, turtles, sharks and herons that transitions from blue to green, was met with criticisms when it drew comparisons to the logo of Washington-based environmental advocacy group, Ocean Conservancy.

Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has welcomed the talks on the reinstatement of old logo.

Maleeh Jamal, the president of MATATO said ‘ We believe it is best for Maldives to reinstate the sunny side of life slogan’ , while Simon Hawkins, who headed the 16 month rebranding process as the former Managing Director at the MMPRC, observed, they had followed a 16 month inclusive process with a cross section of all stake holders, including MATATO and MATI, and they also took the general public view also taken into consideration, before instating the current Maldives logo ‘Maldives-Always Natural’.

Since Maldives ‘s ‘ brand ‘ is not merely a slogan or a logo and rather is how Maldives are  perceived by its visitors and differentiated from other alternative destinations.
