One of Britain’s richest men Hans Kristian Rausing has been arrested after his wife Eva Rausing died of a suspected drug overdose in their 105 million dollars home in a prestigious London suburb.

The US officials confirm the wife of billionaire and heiress Eva Rausing has been found dead in London home. Her husband Hans Kristian Rausing held in connection with her death.

According to police, 48-year-old Eva Rausing has died in her Belgravia home by Metropolitan Police two days ago. A post-mortem held at Westminster Mortuary did not establish a formal cause of death. The arrest of Rausing’s husband, 49-year-old Hans Christian Rausing on drug charges had prompted police to search the couple’s tony residence.

One of Britain’s richest women, American Eva Rausing, was found dead in her west London home and a her husband Hans Christian Rausing was arrested in connection with the case of her death. An autopsy had failed to uncover a formal cause of death.

Eva Rausing was the wife of Hans Kristian Rausing, inheritor to the TetraPak fortune which his father built by creating a successful manufacturer of laminated cardboard drink containers. Both Eva Rausing and her husband Hans have had long-running and often public battles against drugs addiction.

The couple, who have 4 teenage children, have struggled for many years with addiction to hard drugs as heroine, crack and cocaine, narrowly escaping prison in 2008 after heroin and 2,000 pounds worth of crack cocaine were found at their home. Billionaire’s wife Eva Rausing had been arrested after trying to smuggle several wraps of cocaine into a reception at the American embassy in Grosvenor Square.

As part of their caution, Eva Rausing and Hans Christian Rausing were required to attend a 4-month drugs rehabilitation programme, and they were prominent benefactors of a number of anti-drugs charities, even while they continued to struggle with their own addictions.

The father of Hans Rausing moved the family to Britain in the 1980s to avoid Sweden’s higher tax regime, and in 1996 sold his half of the Tetra Pak company to his now late brother Gad. The company is now controlled by Gad’s 3 children, Jorn, Finn and Kirsten, who remain based in Sweden. 80-year-old Ruben Rausing lives in a 900-acre East Sussex estate, where he raises deer and collects vintage cars and is thought to have a personal fortune worth almost 6 billion pounds.

Eva and Hans Kristian Rausing were also philanthropists, supporting, among others, charities working in the arts, sport and anti-addiction charities. Heiress Eva Rausing was even a patron of one charity, The Mentor Foundation, which worked to help people out of addiction and also boasts the Queen of Sweden, Queen Noor of Jordan and Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia as honorary trustees.

The Prince of Wales – Prince Charles, with whom Hans Christian Rausing is said to be on first name terms, has described him as ‘ a very special philanthropist ‘ because of his support for drugs charities.

The Rausing family added in a statement: ‘ Hans and Marit Rausing and their family are deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of their daughter-in-law Eva Louise Rausing. ‘
