Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that 49 Armenian soldiers lost their lives in the clashes. Speaking at the Armenian parliament, Pashinyan said that the clashes continued, arguing that Baku hit the Armenian positions at night.

However, after these statements from Armenia, an announcement came from Russia. While calling for a ceasefire with Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, he also expressed their concern that the war between the two countries would reach extreme proportions. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan was reached as of 09:00 Moscow time.

Although Pashinyan said that clashes continued in some regions, Azerbaijani media claimed that the ceasefire collapsed within 15 minutes.

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan announced that the Armenian army made extensive provocations in the evening hours of the border in the Dashkesen, Kelbajar and Lachin directions.

In its latest statement, the Ministry announced that the countermeasures implemented in response to the provocations of Armenia were of a local nature and aimed at military targets, and that the news about the intervention of the Azerbaijani army in the territory of Armenia were not true.

In the statement of the ministry, it was stated that the information spread by Armenia about the alleged targeting of the civilian population and infrastructure by the Azerbaijani army does not reflect the truth. “In response to the provocations of Armenia, the countermeasures are of a local nature and are aimed at legitimate military targets with firing points. Retaliation measures are small-scale. Azerbaijan aims to ensure the security of its borders and end the provocations of Armenia.

It is stated that what happened is the biggest conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan after the 2nd Karabakh War in 2020.

Intensive Telephone Diplomacy / Azerbaijan and Armenia

Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu discussed the latest developments over the phone. In a written statement made by the Armenian Ministry of Defense, it was stated that Papikyan informed Shoigu about the situation in the region, and that “Papikyan and Shoigu agreed to take the necessary steps to stabilize the situation.”

On the other hand, in the news broadcast on the Armenian state television Pyerviy Kanal, it was reported that the Armenian Security Council held an extraordinary meeting at night.

In the news, it was stated that as a result of the meeting, the Armenian government will make an official application regarding the conflicts to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Russia.
