Lavrov: Putin-Trump summit depends on the U.S.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that holding a new summit between President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump depends entirely on Washington’s decision.
A potential new round of high-level talks between Moscow and Washington is back on the agenda. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed in principle to meet in Budapest, but the final call now rests with the United States. “Trump proposed the meeting, and Putin accepted it. However, everything depends on the inviting side,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov recalled that the planned meeting had originally been canceled at the White House on October 23, before U.S. officials later clarified that the cancellation was effectively a postponement. “There is an offer, and we said we accept when invited. We are ready to agree on the format, location, and timing of the meeting,” he explained.
Budapest remains an option
Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is currently being considered as a possible venue for the summit. Russian officials believe such a meeting could reopen diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. However, Lavrov emphasized once again that the decision now lies entirely with the United States.
