Millions rally across the U.S. in “No Kings” protests against Trump administration

Demonstrations swept all 50 U.S. states as millions denounced what they called President Donald Trump’s authoritarian drift, while Republicans dismissed the rallies as “Hate America” events.

Millions of Americans flooded the streets this weekend in “No Kings” demonstrations aimed at condemning what they described as the Trump administration’s slide toward authoritarianism. From New York to Los Angeles—and even near Trump’s Florida residence—protesters marched under banners calling for the protection of democracy and the end of “strongman politics.”

In Washington, thousands gathered near the U.S. Capitol—where the federal government remains shut down for a third week—chanting, “This is what democracy looks like!” and “Donald Trump has got to go!” Organizers claimed around seven million people participated nationwide, though officials put local turnout in the hundreds of thousands.

Trump’s response: AI videos and defiance

President Trump reacted on his Truth Social platform with a barrage of AI-generated videos portraying himself as a king wearing a crown and piloting a fighter jet dropping waste on protesters.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson mocked the movement, labeling the demonstrations as “Hate America rallies” and claiming they brought together “Marxists, socialists, anarchists, and the pro-Hamas wing of the far-left.”

“Democracy is dying”

Protesters accused Trump of using authoritarian tactics—attacking the media, targeting political opponents, and waging a harsh campaign against undocumented immigrants.

“I never thought I would live to see the death of my country as a democracy,” said Colleen Hoffman, 69, marching in New York.

“We are in a crisis. The cruelty, the authoritarianism—I just couldn’t stay home and do nothing.”

In Los Angeles, demonstrators launched a massive balloon depicting Trump in a diaper, while in Houston, one banner read: “Fight ignorance, not migrants.”
