UNESCO Regional Office to be Awarded in Cuba

The UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean was awarded the Fernando Ortiz award by the foundation of the same name, which preserves the legacy of the late Cuban anthropologist.

Fernando Ortiz Foundation sources said the prize went to the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean for its important work regarding cultural diversity, world heritage conservation, education and science.

The Fernando Ortiz Prize, established 15 years ago, is the most important prize the foundation awards.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday at the National Fine Arts Museum.

Past recipients of the prize include Nina S. Fridemann of Colombia, Ricardo Alegria of Puerto Rico, Sidney Minz of the United States, and Maria Teresa Linares, Celina Gonzalez and Rogelio Martinez Fure of Cuba.
