Signalling a major thaw in their relations, US president Barrack Obama and Chinese president Xi Jinping will meet in US next month to give shape to future course of China-US ties.

Beijing, May 22/Nationalturk- The world’s two most powerful men – US president Barrack Obama and Chinese president Xi Jinping will meet in US next month to give shape to future course of China-US ties.

“Chinese President Xi Jinping  will hold a meeting with US president Obama on June 7 and 8 at Sunnylands, Walter and Leonore Annenberg Estate in California,” China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Qin Gang was quoted as saying by Chinese newspaper, Global Times.

It will be Xi’s first meeting with Obama since becoming president of China in March this year.

According to political analysts world’s two most powerful men will hold in-depth discussions on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.  “They will review progress and challenges in US-China relations over the past four years and discuss ways to enhance cooperation”.

The two leaders were not supposed to meet until September this year. “They were scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Russia. However, through diplomatic channels, the two countries have pre-poned the meeting to give impetus to China-US ties”.

‘Arrangement is unprecedented in China-US relations’

Ruan Zongze, deputy head of the China Institute of International Studies told Global Times that  this arrangement  of early meeting between US and Chinese president is unprecedented in the history of US-China relations. “The relaxed atmosphere of the visit will serve to boost the friendship between Xi and Obama”.

According to analysts China and the United States are working to boost their economies, promote employment, improve people’s livelihood and advance economic restructuring. The expansion of bilateral cooperation in all sectors will benefit the two peoples.

“A healthy development of the China-U.S. relationship is needed by both sides,” they said.

They said it is expected that during their upcoming meeting, Xi and Obama would communicate and coordinate with each other over political, economic and security matters in the Asia-Pacific region.

“China and the United States are economically interdependent and politically engaged, yet there is potential for further development,” Chas Freeman, former US assistant secretary of defense was quoted as saying by Chinese State news agency Xinhua.
