Criticism of Justin Trudeau’s Halloween photos

Justin Trudeau doesn't seem to have much luck when it comes to costumes. There is currently criticism for his son's Halloween costume.

Canada’s Prime Minister shows his followers on Instagram how he and his children dressed up for Halloween. Instead of enthusiastic comments, the politician collects a lot of criticism – in particular about his son Hadrien’s choice of costume.

Justin Trudeau shows his fans three photos from Halloween. In the first, the 51-year-old poses with his son in front of the front door. The next one, which you can see by clicking to the right, shows nine-year-old Hadrien alone, and the last picture shows him with his sister, 14-year-old Ella-Grace.

“Hadrien seems to have misplaced something,” Trudeau writes, among other things, about the pictures and wishes his followers a happy Halloween. Many users don’t find this funny at all, but rather wrong considering the war in the Middle East. Because Hadrien wears a costume that depicts him as a decapitated person holding his own head in his hand.

“This is sick,” wrote not only one user about the pictures. Also read: “This is so inappropriate.” Or: “Shame on you.” There is also this comment: “Bad timing.” And then there’s this post: “Do you really think this was a good idea, given what’s going on in the world?” Some of the critics point out how much the civilian population, including children, are suffering from Israel’s attacks, especially in the Gaza Strip. Others point out in the comments that Hamas is said to have beheaded several people, including babies, in a kibbutz at the beginning of October.

“What the hell is wrong with you guys?”

One person, however, commented: “It’s literally just a photo of him and his kids and everyone is turning this shit into a political vendetta. What the fuck is wrong with y’all?” And this user writes: “Yes, what happened in Gaza is terrible, what happened in Israel because of the Hamas terrorists was terrible, but shooting at a man with his child who was enjoying Halloween is not fair and unjustified . Regardless of what’s going on in the world, a father and his son can still enjoy a day together.” She also hopes that the people who are angry and affected will also think about the victims of other wars in the world.

However, it is not the first costume from Trudeau to cause a stir. In 2019, pictures of Justin Trudeau emerged shortly before the Canadian general election. One was from 2001 and showed him at a costume ball in a racist costume. Keyword: Blackfacing. Other similar cases became known. Trudeau apologized. “It was something that I didn’t think was racist at the time, but now I realize it was something racist,” he said at the time.

Hadrien and Ella-Grace are the children of Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégroire Trudeau. They also have son Xavier, born in 2007. The former couple announced their separation in August 2023.
