FIBA bans vuvuzela at 2010 World basketball championship

FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, announced that the vuvuzela will be banned from the 2010 World Basketball Championship, the world’s biggest international basketball event, due to take place in Turkey this August and September.

The Vuvuzela has been banned from the FIBA 2010 World Championship held in Turkey.

The vuvuzela which became popular during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa has had mixed views from sports fans around the world.

While many fans liked the unique horn like device, a vast majority complained about the high pitch sound that it made.

There were numerous reports that it would be banned at the World Cup after complaints were received in the first few matches of the tournament but FIFA President Sepp Blatter announced that it would not as it was a South African cultural tradition.

The vuvuzela has been banned from several football leagues such as the Premiership in England and La Liga in Spain due to health reasons as the loud sound that the device makes can be harmful to the ears.

Many have also complained that the device overshadows the unique celebrations of football fans.

FIBA has been the first major International tournament that the vuvuzela has been banned from since the World Cup in South Africa.

The 2010 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Championship will take place in Turkey on the 28th of August to September 12.

The games will be played in four cities; Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Kayseri.
